The Hounds

the sussex dogs
In January 2011, we became involved with a hound dog rescue in Sussex, Virginia. Rescue pleas were sent over the internet and phone lines. After receiving only a few promises for financial sponsorship, Jessica Stovall and a friend knew they were out of time and decided to transport EIGHTEEN dogs from one of the many "kill" facilities that dominate our country to a nearby kennel. The dogs would remain there until suitable foster or adoptive homes could be found. You can read about their amazing rescue at The Daily Tail by clicking this link: http://www.thedailytail.com/nonfiction/the-sussex-hounds-need-you/

"It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are."  - Unknown

IN MEMORY OF TWIGGY & ALL THOSE WHO FOLLOW HER ACROSS THE BRIDGE  Our precious Twiggy crossed the bridge.
We (all of us at Hearts to the Rescue) lost our Twiggy. She was one of the original Sussex Hounds rescued on Jan. 6 early this year from a kill shelter in Sussex, Virginia. In the last week she became very ill, was diagnosed with renal failure and though all attempts were made to help her through it, it wasn't meant to be. Her foster mom gave her love and caring, something she had not known for a long time.  Spread your wings and fly now, sweet Angel Twiggy... hover over us in your newfound role as guardian, and know that one day we will all get to be with you.
